To co-incide with the release of Rails 1.2 Sitepoint have a new book out, to lead you through it. Which is nice of them. They have also released a couple of chapters for free. Which is even nicer, and might help explain some of the deprecated things between 1.1 and 1.2.

Have to say, I’m a big fan of Pandora, and I’ve been using it for a while. The basic idea is that you initially prime the system by telling it what kind of music you like (either a song, or a band), and it then starts pulling in other music which is ’similar’. You can then give those songs the thumbs up, or thumbs down, depending on if you like it or not. Eventually you’ll hone in on some new bands who play music you like - which is brilliant. It’s really about using the web for what it was meant for in the first place - to enable people to communicate with each other, using the power of broadcasting via the internet to get your message out there. This is a really good presentation by Kevin Yank of Sitepoint.

Riding Rails: Rails 1.2

I’m doing a few things in Rails at the moment, and new stuff will increasingly be done in rails. One thing which got me was that one of the great things about rails (migrate) has been altered slightly in the newest version, although a quick Google reveals all :

* All the old rake tasks have been moved to namespaced task, old ones are deprected. Ex: rake db:migrate instead of rake migrate

From this list of deprecations in 1.2.
