Quicksilver - Really unbelievably useful application for OS X
A while ago, I started using Quicksilver (Wikipedia entry), after reading about it on 43 Folders. Now, I don’t know how I ever managed without it.
It’s essentially a hybrid of command line access / power, with some GUI like functionality. On a very basic level, it allows you to launch applications without your fingers having to leave the keyboard - but it’s more powerful than that, since it gives you ways to knit your programs & data together. It’s quite hard to explain , you’ll just have to accept that it will make you’re life better.
Jo found a story on Digg which gives some idea as to the extensibility of Quicksilver, which shows that it’s power lies in its extensibility and flexibility.
Incidentally, the people who make Quicksilver also make a really nifty plugin for iTunes, which allows you to use LAME to encode your MP3s instead (without any DRM restrictions). iTunes-Lame.
Anyway - back to Quicksilver. If you don’t use it, and your using OS X - Try it. It’s free, and if you don’t get on with it, then just get rid of it again. There is a good tutorial on getting to grips with Quicksilver in in just 10 minutes here.
I’ve been looking for a good MP3 encoder for a while now. Want to archive our CD collection off and then they can be stored away.
I agree about Quicksilver, its such a fantastic little app, when sitting at other machines at work, I sometimes have to sit there for a few seconds to think where to find applications!
