SC Rebuild.. the supernail

Back in the mists of time, we bought a mk1 SC to replace the silver NA which had tin-worm badly (and which was missing 4th gear..). This SC was pretty tricked out with bits and pieces - a warmed up engine, Leda coilovers, stiffer springs, thicker anti-rollbars etc etc. We took it on trackdays to find it was a superb track car, very well setup (by Leda) and very flattering to drive indeed

We were aware when it was purchased, that the engine might not be 100%, having been bodged together by a couple of garages etc. After thousands of road miles, and 5 days on track (Elvington, Donny, Anglesey x 3), the engine started to misfire, and so I decided to take it off the road in order to see how bad it was internally. I’d been pre-warned by Noble Motorsport that there was a significant amount of leakage on cylinder 1, and there was very little hone left in the cylinder walls, after they had endoscoped the engine when installing the chargecooler system.

So, with a bearding party in swing, we took the head off, to be confronted with a fair amount of damage to the cylinder walls, pistons and (eventually when we then decided to take the sump off) wear on the bearing shells.. so, all new bits and oversized pistons then

Since then, other things have taken priority over finishing the engine rebuild (getting married, work, family stuff, fixing the other supercharger etc etc) but I hope i’m getting back on track with it now, so I’ll be documenting the rebuild so far, and from this point onwards
